Poverty is a multi dimensional problem in Bangladesh. The struggle against poverty and hunger still remains a major challenge in the rural areas of this country. People living in rural areas of Bangladesh are not just victims to natural calamities, but also suffer from ongoing silent disasters caused by grinding poverty and a lack of access to health care and medical facilities. Poor health and poverty are inseparably linked in backward villages of Bangladesh, where children die from preventable illnesses, adults live in miserable conditions and the whole community is threatened. Health care institutions in rural areas of the country lack in sufficient medicines and medical supplies required to diagnose critical conditions and provide life-saving treatments to patients. Minimum requirement to prevent, lessen or cure diseases are not adequate in these health centers. The result of poverty in this country has only given rise to generation after generation of people with minimum access to education, health care, adequate housing, proper sanitation and sufficient nutrition. It’s clear that the government alone is unable to solve the problem of poverty and its many complications.
Touching Souls InternationalEach year Touching Souls International has been giving free treatments and life-changing surgeries by medical experts in the fields of preventable illnesses like cataract, cleft-lip, and club foot to the deprived villagers. Maternal and child health programs are also being held where the mother and child both are provided free treatments by gynecological consultants and surgeons before or after delivery along with free medicines. Touching Souls International supports training of doctors and nurses in palliative care. They serve the poor and disabled by providing free treatment in a hospital known as ‘Nurture Hospital for Paralyzed and Disabled’.
As a part of their health and sanitation project, Touching Souls International has been conducting Arsenic Poisoning Awareness camps, where they educate people on the ways to get over the effects of Arsenic poisoning, thereby reducing the dangers of it.
With a mission to assist the people of Bangladesh with health and education facilities, Touching Souls International has been working persistently. They swear by the cause of poor and underprivileged and make every effort to bring about a positive change in the lives of these people. Education is the only way to a progressive society and Touching Souls International has taken up the responsibility of making education available to the underprivileged people living in Bangladesh. They are running two schools; one for the village children and one for those living in slums. In these schools more than 350 children are receiving quality education that would eventually help them realize their dreams and get themselves and their families out of poverty and illiteracy.
