Ninety years old Hazera Khatun, of Vhatia,Bakhtiarpur, Kaligonj, Bangladesh can not see for the last 11 years. She is cataract blind for the last 11 years. She leaves with her son Mafiz Uddin, who can hardly bear the living expenses of his mother Hazera Khatun. Doctors told her long time ago that she needs the catarct removal surgery to get her eye sight back, which she could imagine in her dream only. Practically it was completely impossible for her to manage the expenses of cataract surgery.
Couple of days ago she heard the announcement on the mike in her nearby streets that Touching Souls International, a nonprofit organization, is going to have a free eye camp in Bakhtiarpur Union Office on June 26th, 2010, where upto 1000 people would be screened for cataract, upto 300 patients will get free eye medications and around 60 patients will get free cataract removal surgery. Hazera Khatun could not even believe what she was hearing. After all these years, her dream of having cataract surgery is coming in reach of her hand!
On the night of June 25th, Hazera Khatun could not sleep properly. She was so much excited by the fact, she can get a free cataract removal surgery arranged by Touching Souls International and she would be able to see again. On the morning of 26th June,2010, it was pouring rain. Many people from far way, could not come. Out of around 800 patients, 28 patients was selected for free cataract removal surgery. And Hazera Khatun was one of those luckiest people to get the cataract surgery with lens implant, totally free from the nonprofit organization, Touching Souls International. She got the joy of seeing this earth again.
