Eighty five years old Habilun Nessa, Pamia, Shakhipur, Tangail, Bangladesh could not see for almost ten years. A decade ago she was diagnosed with cataract. Having a cataract surgery was in her dream only. For most of the people of Bangladesh cataract surgery is not affordable. And if they become cataract blind, most of the cases they remain blind for rest of their life being a burden to the family and the society.
Habilun Nessa was very lucky to be selected for her free cataract surgery in the eye camp of July 18th, 2010, provided by Touching Souls International in Boro Chouna Bazar, PS Sakhipur, Tangail, Bangladesh. About 800 people were screened for their cataract. 300 patients got their free eye medications. 43 patients were selected for cataract removal surgery. These patients have been taken to BNBS Mymensingh Eye Hospital for their cataract surgery. On July 20th, after their cataract removal surgery they were brought back to their original Home Office. All the expenses for this purpose are provided by a New York based nonprofit organization, Touching Souls International. Goal of Touching Souls International is to eradicate curable blindness in Bangladesh and we are seeking funding to expand the help to economically disadvantaged areas of Bangladesh.
