Bangladesh being one of the poor countries in the world is low on basic health care facilities. It is primarily an agricultural country with bulk of the population living in the rural areas which have little or no public health care facilities. All this has taken a toll on the overall population of the the country. Things like treatment of spinal cord fracture are almost unheard of in Bangladesh, with most patients waiting to die forced to their beds due to paralysis.
Touching Souls International, a nonprofit organization is running a project for the rehabilitation of people who are paralyzed in partnership with Nurture Center for disabled and paralyzed in suburban coastal area of North Halishahar, Chittagong. Bangladesh has one of the highest number of its citizens paralyzed as there is lack of treatment for the poor and disadvantaged. Many a time even a small spinal cord fracture can lead to a life threatening situation if not treated on time. In poverty struck families these patients become a liability to their families and to the society. Nurture and Touching Souls International has been working to make the lives of such individuals better.
The rehabilitation of the paralyzed campaigns are being run by those who have deep penetration among the poor and the destitute. This local touch helps Nurture and Touching Souls International carry out the rehabilitation in a much more effective manner rather than just distributing funds for the noble work.
In Bangladesh few people are able to afford physical therapy when needed for the treatment plan of paralysis. Nurture and Touching Souls International has been educating people and teaching them the physical therapies which can help people get the treatment free of cost. They are running a 80 bed hospital in Halishahar, Chittagong, where disadvantaged patient gets free treatment of spinal cord injury, brain injury, spinal cord fracture and physical therapies.
Touching Souls International is also funding for palliative care for those that are nearing the end of their lives. This caters to the needy brain injury patients along with cancer patients, progressive neurological diseases, end stage cardiac and respiratory diseases..
