Education is the corner stone for the development of a nation. Unfortunately in many of the under developed and developing countries considerable percentage of people are illiterates. The reason for this pitiable situation is poverty. Illiteracy normally goes with poverty. This illiteracy is more amongst people living in villages. Except for what is understood through electronic media like television, radio etc, most of those living in villages will not be aware of developments in the country. Another interesting point to be noted is that in some of the remote villages even the television and radio is a myth because these villages may not have power and if they have power connection. As a result the village remains out of bound and in such village illiteracy percentage tends to be highest.
Touching Souls International, a nonprofit has been actively involved in spreading literacy. This organization targets the poor people in villages and provides these people with enough opportunities so that they can get the school education. It also provides scholarship to poor students who score high percentage of marks in their annual examination. TSI also provide grants or donations to school. There are instances where the TSI has adopted few schools in some of remote villages. Apart from the above, the TSI provides books, uniform and makes periodical health check up to the poor students.
